What is the reason for the price increase?

The price increase accurately reflects the market value of the plates and has been impacted by the increase in manufacturing costs.

Which custom plates are affected by the price increase?

The changes will affect the 3x3 (General Issue), Pop, Personalised, AFL Upgrade, AFL 150 Year, Melbourne Storm Upgrade, Melbourne Victory Upgrade, HSV Upgrade, Illustrator, Zodiac and Custom replacement slimline plates.

Does the price of custom plates increase each year?

No. The February 2010 price increase applies to Slimline plates only. All other custom plate products remain at their current price and have not increased since January 5 2008. At this stage there is no plan to increase the price of custom plates on a yearly basis, however this is subject to change without notice.

Do I have to pay this much?

Purchasing a custom plate is entirely optional. It provides the opportunity to be unique and add personality to your car. You can choose to purchase the slimline plate option at an additional cost, or you can simply purchase the standard size for no additional cost.

How much do other states charge?

At this point in time, the price of Victorian custom plates is very similar to other Australian states. You can access the plate fees for each state by visiting their websites.

Where do the funds from the sale of a custom plate go?

When purchasing a custom plate you are not only guaranteeing that your car will be one of a kind on the road, but you’re helping to fund road safety and improvement project across Victoria.

I have a brochure that states the cost of a Slimline Plate is $11.80, do I now have to pay the increased cost?

The price increase is effective 1 February 2010, therefore any purchases made from this date forward will incur the new price. Our brochures do state that prices are subject to change without notice. All brochures are being updated to reflect the new prices.
