When Alex attended the recent Supercars and Coffee event at the Fox Classic Car Collection, it wasn't just his 1969 Shelby GT350 that turned heads. His MUSV8 custom plate helped him take home the prize for ‘Best Car and Plate Combo’.

In 2001, he bought the combination MUSV8, on a Ford Mustang style custom plate."MUSV8 stands for Mustang V8, or Muscle V8," he explains.

Alex has owned several Mustangs over the years, but when he recently purchased a 1969 Shelby GT350 Fastback, he knew this plate was the perfect match.

Alex says the pairing often starts conversations. People are initially drawn to the Mustang. Finished in rare Grabber Orange, it's one of just five produced with its exact combination of colour, trim, transmission and factory options. But they're also curious about the story behind the Ford Mustang plate.

Away from his own garage, Alex is also President of Mustang Cruisers Victoria, a car club that has grown into a thriving community of more than 1,800 social members. The club runs regular cruises, social gatherings, dinners, car shows and special events across Victoria, bringing together Mustang enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds.

“We like to keep things varied, so one weekend we might be down the Peninsula for a coastal cruise, and the next we could be exploring country roads, stopping at a cafe or checking a car collection, like the Fox Museum.”

For him, the best part of the club isn't necessarily the Mustangs – it’s the sense of connection.

"One of the things I'm most proud of about Mustang Cruisers Victoria is how we've grown beyond simply being a car club. We've built a genuine year-round community where people come together through their shared passion for Mustangs but stay for the friendships and experiences."

It's a sentiment that feels fitting for MUSV8 too.

Sometimes a custom plate doesn't just identify a vehicle. It tells a story.
