Trailer & Bike Rack plates

Trailer plates

There are two types of plates for your trailer:

  1. Trailer plates; and
  2. Exempt trailer plates

Trailer plates

These plates are specifically for registered trailers (except semi-trailers) and caravans. The current series of Trailer plates have a white background with blue characters and is the same size as a standard 3x3 plate (General Issue plate).

There are two ways to purchase a replacement Trailer plate for your registered trailer or caravan;

Please note: Alternatively the registered operator of a trailer may attend a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to purchase a new General Issue number plate for a fee of $17.80. Please ensure to have the applicable evidence of identification at the time of attendance.

Exempt Trailer plates

These plates are specifically made for trailers exempt from registration, and are a duplicate of the registration number of the towing vehicle. Purchasing an Exempt Trailer plate means you don’t have to take the plate off your vehicle to attach it to the trailer each time you tow!
Exempt Trailer plates are available in one design, white background with blue characters and are the same size as a standard 3x3 plate (General Issue plate).
